  1. Installation:

  3.     To install Igo from this disk to another, type:
  4.  
  5.     INSTALL SRC DST
  6.  
  7.     Where SRC is the source disk (for example A:) and DST is the
  8.     destination disk (for example C:), type INSTALL.  The program
  9.     will make a directory called `IGO' on the destination disk and
  10.     copy all files from the A: disk to the C: drive.
  11.

  14.     Igo is Copyright 1995 David Fotland.  The Igo tutorial is
  15.     Copyright 1991-1995 Roger White.  Igo aims to encourage and 
  16.     help game enthusiasts learn to play this remarkable ancient 
  17.     oriental game of strategy.  We encourage you to give copies 
  18.     of this program freely to any others who might be interested.
  19.     (However, these programs are copyrighted and copies must not 
  20.     be altered from the originals in any way without permission).

  22.     All of the text displayed by the program is in the files IGO.TXT
  23.     and GO.RUL.  Permission is granted to translate all or part of

  51.     Each menu option is explained in a help screen.  You can get
  52.     help by pressing F1 at any time except during the go tutorial.
  53.     On the main playing screen, press any key to make the menu
  54.     appear (it is under the Japanese character for go).

  57. Hercules users:
  58.  
  59.     You must run the driver program "msherc.com" before running
  60.     Igo.  Due to a Microsoft bug, if you do not do so your
  61.     machine may crash when you run Igo.  You have 3 options:
  62.  
  63.     1) Run Igo by typing "igoherc" instead of "igo".
  64.     Igoherc is a DOS batch file that runs msherc, then Igo.
  65.  
  66.     2) Type the command "msherc" yourself before the first time
  67.     you run Igo (but you must then run msherc again each time you
  68.     boot your machine).
  69.  
  70.     3) If you have installed Igo on your hard disk you can add 
  71.     the line "\igo\msherc" to your autoexec.bat file.  This will 
  72.     install the hercules driver every time your machine boots up.
  73.     Note that this will leave less memory available for other
  74.     applications.  Msherc uses about 6 Kbytes of memory.
  75.  
  76. Memory Usage:
  77.  
  78.     Igo requires about 400 Kbytes of memory to run at all.  The pattern 
  79.     database requires another 65 Kbytes (465 Kb total).  Additional 
  80.     memory is used for the graphic bitmaps, but these are not 
  81.     required for proper program operation.  You can use the "chkdsk"
  82.     or "mem" (DOS 5.0/6.0) command to see how much available memory you 
  83.     have on your machine.  If you don't have enough memory available,
  84.     check your autoexec.bat file and config.sys file for drivers and
  85.     TSR (terminate and stay resident) programs that you don't need. 
  86.      Be sure to back up your autoexec.bat and config.sys files before
  87.      you make any changes.

  90. Microsoft Windows 3.1:
  91.  
  92.     A graphic icon is provided for Windows 3.0 users called igo.ico.
  93.     To install the program for operation under Windows: from program
  94.     manager select File, New.  Select "Program Item" and push
  95.     the OK button.  Enter the name of the program "Igo", and the path
  96.     name "c:\igo\igo.exe" then select "Change Icon".  Enter the file
  97.     name "c:\igo\igo.ico" as the icon file name.  Push the OK
  98.     buttons.  The program icon now appears as a small go board in the
  99.     program group that was selected.

  101.     If you have VGA graphics and are an advanced user you can
  102.     improve the graphic performance by creating a pif and turning
  103.     off "monitor ports" in the advanced screen.  (See the "More About
  104.     Applications" chapter in the Windows manual for details.)  Igo does
  105.      uses EMS or XMS, and does not require "Retain video memory".

  107. Disk usage:
  108.  
  109.     If you are short on disk space you might be able to delete some
  110.     files to save space.  If you will not be using VGA mode you can
  111.     delete the VGA graphic files (GRAIN.BMP and VGA*.BMP).  If you
  112.     will not be using EGA you can delete the EGA graphic files
  113.     (EGA*.BMP).  If you will not be using Tandy graphics you can
  114.     delete the tandy graphic files (TAN*.BMP).  If you will not be
  115.     using Hercules graphics you can delete MSHERC.COM.  If you do not need
  116.     the go rules tutorial you can delete the file GO.RUL.

  118.     If you delete files off your hard disk be sure you save the
  119.     original disk since you must copy all the files if you make 
  120.     copies for other people.
